A Texas school choice plan dies—taking teacher pay increases with it

Texas lawmakers’ plan to funnel public money toward private schools is dead – at least for now.

A wide-ranging education finance proposal that tied education savings accounts to teacher pay raises and more money for public schools died late Saturday, the bill’s author said.

“The budget we are going to pass has millions of dollars in it to increase pay for many state employees,” Rep. Ken King said in a statement. “Only teachers are punished over a political fight.”
