N.J. district will reconfigure grades in 10 schools to make room for expanded pre-K

One of the first New Jersey school districts to receive state aid to expand access to public pre-K programs is planning a major upheaval in its schools as it works to accommodate the projected enrollment surge.

The Howell school district in Monmouth County is slated to transform two elementary schools into “early childhood learning centers” exclusively for pre-K students. Officials also plan to expand the grade levels at eight of the district’s other elementary schools.
