Two recipients of a Best Starts for Kids grant have chosen to partner with Kickboard to help expand trauma-informed and restorative practices in King County, Wash., schools. Hazelwood Elementary School and Unleash the Brilliance have each begun a three-year partnership with the company to implement the Kickboard school culture system, which includes a highly configurable, web-based platform and collaborative, research-based professional development services.

Part of Renton School District, Hazelwood Elementary is launching the Kickboard platform schoolwide. It is also implementing Kickboard professional services on topics including “Positive School Culture Planning” and “Equity & Diversity.” School leaders and teachers will use the solutions to help meet the standards and benchmarks in Washington’s Social Emotional Learning Framework, while making equity a focus of their implementation.

“Kickboard is helping us build a common language and clear, consistent practices across our school,” said Tracey Naylor Tymczyszyn, principal of Hazelwood Elementary. “With Kickboard data, we can be more strategic in the training and support we provide to our students and staff so we can build an authentically joyful environment and ensure scholars are receiving everything they need to be successful at school.”

Unleash the Brilliance, a nonprofit working to help close the achievement gap for students at risk of academic failure, will also implement the Kickboard platform and professional services in an elementary school and middle school in King County.

“Kickboard is the best possible match for the Best Starts for Kids grant in that it has all the ingredients we need to expand trauma-informed and restorative practices in the schools we partner with,” said Terrell Dorsey, president and founder of Unleash the Brilliance. “Kickboard’s professional development has been outstanding, and the app will help us be more effective in monitoring student behaviors, acknowledging students for positive behavior choices, and planning deeper, more strategic interventions.”
