Mentorship programs: Pair young officials with veterans to ease their entry into the field.

Higher pay: School athletic budgets are often strapped, but better compensation would attract more officials.

Improved security: Ensure that each official has a security officer walk them from the field to the locker room and to their car after a game, and that they have a secure place to get changed.

Targeted recruitment: Look for students who are interested in sports but not participating, and who want a part-time job.

Training: Additional targeted training should be offered to support young officials.
