Montana school funds bill gets quick OK

There is good news for Montana’s public schools in the Legislature, where a key funding bill is off to a fast start.

The House Education Committee voted 17-0 last Friday to pass a bill that would provide more than $1.6 billion in state funding to schools over the next two years — including money to keep up with inflation, an increase of $68 million.

House Bill 192 is sponsored by Rep. Bruce Grubbs, a Bozeman Republican, former Bozeman School Board member and former director of a regional co-op for southwest Montana school districts that banded together to find ways to save money.
