Covina-Valley Unified School District teachers union sets strike date

Educators in the Covina-Valley Unified School District are readying for a strike beginning Thursday, Dec. 1, unless district administrators and the Covina United Education Association reach a resolution this week in a long ongoing contract dispute.

The announcement Monday, Nov. 28, comes as negotiations around salary, health and welfare benefits, and changes to special education teacher responsibilities have hampered a deal between the two sides for nearly a year.

They will meet for a final bargaining session on Wednesday, Nov. 30.

At stake is a potential disruption to a district serving more than 13,000 students from Covina, West Covina, Glendora, San Dimas, Irwindale and other unincorporated areas.
