Veterans and first-timers take the helm in new districts

Superintendents on the move over the last few weeks include veterans and first-time leaders in several states, including South Dakota, Ohio and Delaware.

Superintendent Rachel Monárrez is moving cross-country, from Worcester Public Schools in Massachusetts to the Orange Unified School District in her home state of California. Her replacement in Worcester has already been announced. The district has promoted Brian Allen, its current deputy superintendent, chief financial officer and chief operations officer.

Santa Fe Public Schools has selected a superintendent from a neighboring state to become its next leader. It has hired Christine Griffin, currently the superintendent of Humboldt Unified School District in Arizona.

Misty Her has been promoted to lead the Fresno Unified School District, California’s third-largest school system. She has spent her entire career at Fresno Unified most recently serving as interim and deputy superintendent.

Mary Outley’s promotion to superintendent caps off 34 years of service to Akron Public Schools. Starting as a teacher, she was most recently the Ohio district’s executive director of school leadership.

Jeff Senn, superintendent at Lonoke Public School District, was chosen to lead the Pulaski County Special School District in Arkansas. In South Dakota, Superintendent Garrett Schmidt is headed to the Dakota Valley School District after leading Doland Public Schools for three years.

In Oklahoma, Superintendent Tyler Bridges is moving to Stillwater Public Schools from Clinton Public Schools, which he has led since June 2020. He also served as superintendent of Pleasant Grove Public Schools. In Texas, Curtis Null will take the helm at the Lake Travis Independent School District after leading Conroe ISD since 2018.

The Wyandanch Union Free School District in New York has selected its next superintendent, Erik D. Wright, who previously served as associate superintendent of schools for Yonkers Public Schools. In Maryland, Chief Safety Officer Annette Wallace has been named the first-ever female superintendent of Worcester County Public Schools.
