Moments after she had posed with the oversized $25,000 check, thanked a seemingly endless stream of well-wishers and been the recipient of countless hugs, Northshore High School teacher Kelly Ryan finally made her way back to her advanced chemistry students in Room 404.
“Are we going to get a pizza party?” one of them asked Ryan, knowing, of course, that she had just received a national education award and a fair bit of money.
“I can’t afford it!” Ryan replied, prompting a series of groans from the students. “And we still have a test tomorrow.”
