A former student at Woodburn High School sued the district Monday after its former head football coach was convicted of sexually abusing her when she was 17.
Nicholas Federico, now 41, was sentenced Nov. 15 to 2½ years in state prison and must register as a sex offender after a jury convicted him of second-degree sexual abuse and luring a minor during the 2017-2018 school year.
The suit filed in Marion County Circuit Court seeks $3 million in damages for the student’s pain and suffering, alleging that the district failed to prevent the sexual abuse, some of which occurred in Federico’s office and in his truck while it was parked at a middle school campus.
