WHAT GRANT PLANS MEAN FOR SCHOOLS: Schools and colleges could face more funding uncertainty under a new proposal from the Education Department.
The department’s proposed rule on federal grants, known as the Education Department General Administrative Regulations, closes for public comment this Wednesday. The plan would give the agency broad authority to terminate certain federal funds.
The proposed rule would allow the agency to terminate competitive grants to K-12 schools and colleges “for convenience” — adding a new category that gives the department larger discretion in canceling grants.
