Ransomware attack delays first day of school in Hartford

Officials are investigating the cause of the virus that affected 'critical systems' and shut down both remote and in-person learning

A ransomware attack prompted Hartford Public Schools to delay the first day back for many students and faculty, according to a letter sent to families. Tuesday marked the return to classes for thousands of students across Connecticut.

The virus “caused an outage of critical systems and the restoration of those systems are not complete,” the letter said. The virus also hit the system that shares the transportation routes with the bus company. Hartford is staggering in-person learning for the first week as students from pre-K through second grade, plus sixth and ninth grades, return.
