Brevard Public School lost 212 teachers in July. Here’s how that compares to previous years

Only three weeks before the start of the new school year, 212 teachers have resigned or retired from Brevard Public Schools  all of them in the month of July.

Though that number is greater than those of departures typically seen within a month’s time, it isn’t unusual to see teachers leaving just before a school year begins: Since at least 2017-2018, more teachers have resigned or retired in July than in any other month.

Still, concerns are rising within BPS as 2023-2024 approaches, said Russell Bruhn, a spokesperson for the district.
