Only three weeks before the start of the new school year, 212 teachers have resigned or retired from Brevard Public Schools — all of them in the month of July.
Though that number is greater than those of departures typically seen within a month’s time, it isn’t unusual to see teachers leaving just before a school year begins: Since at least 2017-2018, more teachers have resigned or retired in July than in any other month.
Still, concerns are rising within BPS as 2023-2024 approaches, said Russell Bruhn, a spokesperson for the district.
