Rhode Island school district sends displacement notices to 270 teachers; union fires back

The school department has notified 270 employees, mostly teachers, that they will have to apply for different jobs this spring.

The school district, in a release, said the displacements are the result of ending one-year positions and failure to meet certification requirements.

Teachers have not been fired, however. Tenured staff will still be employed with the district next year, but their job titles or duties may change as part of a reorganization.
