Millions in lottery ticket sales profits are heading to the Virginia Department of Education.
Virginia Lottery reports that sales of Powerball tickets in the Commonwealth generated about $42.3 million in profits during the past 41 drawings.
Under state law, all lottery profits go to K-12 education.
Officials report that a ticket purchased in California won the record $2.04 billion jackpot, which had been growing since August.
While no one in Virginia won the big prize in the drawing, which was delayed until Tuesday morning, there were several tickets that won smaller prizes.
