Parents, teachers scramble to learn more as Denver Public Schools proposes closing 10 schools

Manuel Aragon knew his daughter’s school could potentially close.

Denver Public Schools officials have said for more than a year now that they must consolidate schools as fewer students are enrolling in the state’s largest district.

And yet Aragon still was shocked to find Colfax Elementary among the 10 schools the district has proposed shutting down next year and his daughter, a fourth-grader, among the more than 1,500 students who will have to change schools if the district’s Board of Education approves the plan.
