Promotions highlight the latest week of superintendent hires

Several school boards have looked within for their new superintendents, including some that hired graduates of their schools. Also in the latest week of hiring, a few leaders were tapped to take the helm in new districts.

Superintendent Bret Heller is moving to the Thompson School District in Colorado from the School Town of Munster in Indiana. He was previously an assistant superintendent in the West Ada School District in Idaho.

In New York, Superintendent Jesse Harper will take over at Newfield Central School District after having led the Arkport Central School District for nine years, where he oversaw $20 million in capital projects.

Cassie Parham was promoted to superintendent of her alma mater, California’s Irvine Unified School District, after serving a brief stint as the interim and 18 years as assistant superintendent of education services. In the same state, Angela Elizondo Baxter will take the helm at South Pasadena USD after serving as assistant superintendent of educational services for Culver City USD.

Jackson Public Schools in Michigan promoted alumnus, Jeremy Patterson, to superintendent. Patterson has been the district’s assistant superintendent of secondary curriculum since 2022.

Two Virginia administrators have been elevated to the top spots in their districts. Deputy Superintendent Daniel F. Keever was chosen to head up Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools while  Executive Director of Personnel Kelly Troxell will lead Augusta County Public Schools.

In North Carolina, Beth Penley was selected to lead Avery County Schools after serving as an administrator at Newton-Conover City Schools, Iredell-Statesville Schools and Lincoln County Schools.
