Andre D. Spencer, who has led two previous districts over a 15-year span, was selected as the next superintendent of New Jersey’s Willingboro Township Public Schools. Spencer is the superintendent of Teaneck Public Schools, also in New Jersey, and also led Colorado’s Harrison School District 2 for more than five years.
Spencer also served as executive superintendent for the New York City Department of Education, overseeing 151 schools and 111,000 students in Queens.
Dorrell Green, the 2026 Delaware Superintendent of the Year and leader of the Red Clay Consolidated School District since 2019, will take the helm of the Norristown Area School District in Pennsylvania.
Green oversaw the expansion of Red Clay Consolidated School District’s early childhood programs, advanced coursework and college and career pathways. Three of the top five U.S. News-ranked Delaware high schools are in the Red Clay district, which also serves the state’s second-largest multilingual learner population.
Green previously served as the inaugural executive director of the Delaware Department of Education’s Office of Innovation and Improvement.
In Virginia, Melody Sheppard will lead Amherst County Schools after serving as superintendent of Shenandoah County Public Schools since 2021. She previously spent 23 years in Warren County Public Schools in several roles, including assistant superintendent and interim superintendent.
In Minnesota, Superintendent Jim Wagner is moving from Le Sueur-Henderson Public Schools to Prior Lake-Savage Area Schools.
William Heiser, the chief operating officer at Anne Arundel County Public Schools in Maryland, was named the next superintendent of Baltimore County Public Schools. As Anne Arundel’s COO, Heiser led a major redistricting process, managed a $195 million budget, and oversaw extensive school construction. He served as president of Cristo Rey Jesuit High School in Baltimore City from 2015 to 2023.
Texas’s San Antonio Independent School District picked Adrian Bustillos as the lone finalist for superintendent. Bustillos—who is the chief transformation officer for Aldine ISD, one of the state’s largest and most diverse school districts—was chosen for his efforts to increase student outcomes, support school improvement initiatives and expand innovative learning models.
