Illinois district cancels activities at five schools amid wave of gun violence

Peoria Public Schools says all after-school activities are canceled at five Peoria schools and it is working with the Peoria Police Department to “ensure the safety of students and staff” amid a spate of gun violence across Peoria on Wednesday and Thursday.

In a statement, Peoria Public Schools said: “Our safety team is working closely with the Peoria Police Department to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Both parties are monitoring today’s dismissal at the impacted schools and all after-school activities are canceled.”

The impacted schools are Peoria High School, Manual High School, Trewyn, Annie Jo Gordon Community Learning Center and Elise Ford Allen Academy, according to PPS.
