School districts and universities remain one of the best targets for cyberattacks. Although they’ve always been vulnerable, educational institutions became even more so during 2020, when most of them moved to remote learning, and most university infrastructures weren’t ready to do so.
Account takeovers, ransomware attacks and personal information leaks are the top outcomes of the most notorious school cyberattacks. The Gadsden Independent School District in New Mexico was attacked with the Ryuk virus in 2020, which crippled communications in 24 schools.
