Field trips, assemblies, and a snow day here and there. For the most part, it was a typical year at Grand Rapids Public Schools.
Yet, when that final bell rang last week dismissing students for summer break, things looked different than years before.
Students walked out of their classrooms – without backpacks over their shoulders – toward their buses and parents on Friday, June 9, to begin their summer break of celebrating days in the sun, chilling poolside, and hanging out with friends.
