Sorensen became the superintendent of Texas’ La Joya ISD in February 2024 after serving as deputy superintendent for the Virginia Department of Education, where she focused on learning acceleration, early literacy and special education. She launched Virginia’s high-intensity tutoring program to help students recover academically from the disruptions of COVID.
