Just nine days into the new school year, attendance at one Kentucky school district dropped to 81% as COVID and other illnesses are beginning to sweep the nation.

In the ever-changing landscape of K12 education, decision-makers play a critical role in shaping the direction and success of their districts. The Future of Education Technology Conference (FETC) 2024 offers a comprehensive lineup of tracks designed specifically to meet the needs of these influential leaders.

There are various ways to measure the problem schools are facing. The Professional Educator Licensing and Licensing Standards Board (PELSB) found in its 2023 report that between 80-90 percent of Minnesota districts were significantly impacted by teacher and substitute shortages. It also found that nearly a third of new educators are leaving teaching within the first five years of the profession.

The announcement, sent in an electronic message to parents in some Cobb County schools on Monday, comes days after the Republican-majority school board voted 4-3 along party lines to fire a teacher for reading a book about gender identity to fifth-grade students.
