Nearly 1,800 current and former educators ran for state legislative seats. Among many others, winners include Tony Evers, Wisconsin's next governor and the state's current superintendent of public instruction.

The usually mellow races for the Washington, D.C.'s board of education turned into a fight over the future of public education. Three of the four seats on the ballot went to candidates who were backed by the teachers union and were portrayed as proponents of traditional public schools.

"It's important if we the people are going to run our government, that we know what it is, how it works, and how we can participate in it," Gorsuch said as part of Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Gorsuch's work promoting civic education.

Dyslexia legislation is important so that students are not left to “wait to fail” before receiving screening, diagnosis and evidence-based instruction. New legislation in Massachusetts now requires the state education department to issue guidelines about screening procedures and protocols for students that show neurological learning disability indicators.
