A new wave of professional development partnerships will double the capacity of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) to offer its Certification for Educators edtech training to teachers in person and online.
Some of the newest certification providers include Illinois Computing Educators, New Jersey’s Eduscape, Wisconsin’s Cooperative Educational Service Agency 2, Ohio’s Butler County Educational Service Center, Pennsylvania’s Lincoln Intermediate Unit 12 and Massachusetts’ Collaborative for Educational Services.
“Our certification is not product- or vendor-focused, but rather about the principles of using technology effectively” ISTE CEO Richard Culatta says.
PD topics include digital citizenship, designing for diversity, active learning, collaboration, program analysis and other subjects linked to ISTE’s Standards for Educators.

Following the training, educators have six months to compile a portfolio to earn ISTE certification and graduate-level credits.
Nearly 300 teachers had participated as of October 2018.
