“They were expecting the base salaries for all NES schools to be $80,000 or more,” said Michelle Williams, President of the Houston Education Association. Williams represents HISD teachers, and she said some of her members have salary offers less than what they already make.
"If somebody comes in that has a spill or something has happened to their clothes, we are able to wash and dry them right there and get them back to the student," said Sara Shevchuk, principal of Truman Elementary. "The student just feels good about themselves. They get to go home with clean clothes."
