Three more superintendents have departed their posts while one district made a historic hire and a few leaders found new homes.
Charles Brown resigned from Maine’s Regional School Unit 3 on Aug. 31—three days into the school year—after having served as superintendent since 2019 and as a principal before that, CentralMaine.com reported. The RSU 3 school board did not give a reason for Brown’s departure.
In Pennsylvania, Craig Parkinson has left the Chester Upland School District after just over two years as superintendent, according to local reports. Parkinson had previously spent 11 years as principal of Phoenixville Area High School. Latrice Mumin, an assistant superintendent, has been appointed to serve as the interim leader of the district, which is currently in financial receivership.
There’s more clarity surrounding Superintendent Shawn Bishop’s decision to move on from Harbor Beach Community Schools in Michigan at the end of 2023. Bishop, who has led the district for six years, is taking an administrative position with the Michigan Association of Superintendents and Administrators.
And in Texas, San Benito Consolidated ISD Superintendent Theresa Servellon has been suspended only a year after she was hired by a previous school board. The current school board did not give a reason for the decision, which was approved by a narrow 4-3 vote, according to myRGV.com.
A historic hire in Florida
LaShakia Moore has been promoted to superintendent of Florida’s Flagler County School District after two months of serving as the interim. Moore, who will be the district’s first Black superintendent, has also been Flagler County’s assistant superintendent for academic services, a principal, a curriculum specialist and a teacher.
A few more leaders relocated this week, including one who will not be the superintendent in his new district. Matthew Gutierrez, who is now superintendent of Seguin ISD in Texas, will become Leander ISD’s chief of schools on Oct. 1.
The Belle Vernon Area School District in Pennsylvania has chosen its next superintendent, Timothy Glasspool, who currently leads the Penncrest School District. Glasspool was also superintendent of the Plum Borough School District from 2015 to 2017 but resigned after a grand jury blamed him and his administration for not doing more to prevent inappropriate relationships between “teachers and female students,” CBS News Pittsburgh reported.
And in New York, Chris Wood, a former superintendent of the Odessa-Montour Central School District, will take the helm at the Dundee Central School District later this month. Wood has been serving as a principal in Dundee, FingerLakes.com reported.
