Metro Nashville Public Schools and Vanderbilt University are teaming up to establish a magnet school with a new focus on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics, also known as STEAM.
The bill, which allows some trained teachers and school staff to carry handguns, is all but guaranteed to become law within weeks.
If approved, the statewide taxpayer-funded school voucher program would eventually allow any student, regardless of family income or location, to attend a private school of their choice and use a scholarship funded with state dollars to help do so.
A 10-member panel will determine whether Tennessee can reject $1.8 billion in federal funding for Title I, IDEA, and other federal programs that support low-income students, students with disabilities and school lunch programs.
