The Michigan district's enrollment has fallen by nearly 30% over the last 15 years, which means many school buildings are half-empty. District leaders say the closures will help right-size Grand Rapids Public Schools for a smaller student body and ensure resources are equitably.
The inaugural Washtenaw County Head Start Awareness Award honored a trio of people who follow the “Head Start” program’s mission in their everyday work, said Teresa Harrington, WISD Head Start quality assurance specialist. The honorees received their awards during a Nov. 28 meeting of the Washtenaw County Board of Education.
At 959.9, the average score dropped 36.1 points below the previous year, and set the lowest mark in the state since the test was implemented statewide in the 2015-16 school year, according to information released Aug. 31 by MI School Data. The score was also 47.7 points lower than the all-time high average of 1007.6, set in 2016-17.
With 17 years of leadership experience in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, Jazz Parks has been a principal, executive director and most recently has served an assistant superintendent, where she worked in developing and maintaining educational programs and services.
