Brian Yearwood takes the helm of Kentucky’s largest district, Jefferson County Public Schools, for an initial four-year term starting July 1.

Yearwood previously served as superintendent of Missouri’s Columbia Public Schools, where he is credited with achieving a 16-point increase on the district’s annual state performance rating.

Longtime North Carolina education leader Eric C. Bracy was named superintendent of Cumberland County Schools, his fourth superintendency. Bracy is the superintendent of Johnston County Schools and previously led the Northampton and Sampson county districts.

The Central Unified School District has chosen experienced leader Mark E. Marshall as its next superintendent, according to the Los Banos Enterprise. Marshall is the superintendent of Los Banos USD and previously led the Eastside Union School District.

Scott J. Hunt, interim superintendent of Pickerington Local Schools, has been selected to lead Ohio’s Parma City Schools. Hunt was previously superintendent of Cardinal Local Schools.

In Colorado, Jackie Kapushion was promoted to superintendent of St. Vrain Valley Schools. Kapushion has been the district’s deputy superintendent for the past eight years. Michigan’s Portage Public Schools promoted longtime educator and assistant superintendent Johnny Edwards to the top role.

Superintendent Gustavo Balderas, who has led several West Coast districts, announced he will step down from Oregon’s Beaverton School District at the end of the school year to become superintendent of the Puget Sound Educational Service District in Washington.
