Southern Columbia Area Superintendent Jim Becker will carry a gun on the job after the school board voted Monday to amend his contract to add the responsibilities of an armed security guard.

According to the amendment, Becker is now responsible for the safety and security of staff, students and the greater school community and will be permitted to carry a firearm on district property.
