Scarsdale school Superintendent Thomas Hagerman, the second-highest paid schools chief in New York, issued his resignation Friday.
The resignation came 41 days after the school board learned that his administration had covered up for close to a year the imposition of $1.7 million in fines by the IRS for payroll withholding tax errors.
On April 25, the district’s outside counsel, Anthony Brock, began his probe into the timeline of the botched payments and the lines of communications regarding the matter.
