Districts big and small have hired these new leaders

San Diego USD has dropped the interim tag from Superintendent Fabi Bagula‘s title, making her the permanent new leader of California’s second-largest school district.

The first Latina to hold the position, she previously served San Diego USD as a teacher, teacher coach, principal, assistant superintendent, executive leadership coach, senior director of equity and deputy superintendent.

Longtime Texas superintendent J.A. Gonzalez will take the helm of Hidalgo Independent School District after having previously led Harlingen CISD and McAllen ISD. Gonzalez was named Texas Superintendent of the Year in 2020.

In the same state, Jack Lee was selected to lead Seguin ISD after having served as superintendent of Bullard ISD and Blooming Grove ISD. Socorro ISD tapped interim superintendent James P. Vasquez as the lone finalist to become its next leader.

In South Carolina, Superintendent Alvin Pressley is moving to the Fairfield County School District from the School District of Newberry County. He has previously served as an administrator in Lexington-Richland School District Five and Aiken County Public Schools.

Alfonso Jiménez, who currently leads Hacienda La Puente USD, has been named superintendent of Culver City USD in Southern California. In Northern California, Darnise R. Williams was chosen to lead Antioch USD. She was previously superintendent of Pacifica Public Schools and the Sequoia Union High School District in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Santa Ana USD promoted Deputy Superintendent Lorraine M. Perez to serve as its next leader. She previously worked for several years as an administrator in San Bernardino City USD.

In Tennessee, Superintendent Selina Sparkman is relocating to the Lauderdale County School District from the Bledsoe County School District. And in Arkansas, Chris Nail was named superintendent of the Benton School District after having led the Beebe School District and the Rose Bud School District.
