Tropical Storm Nicole, which had strengthened to a Category 1 hurricane by the time it made landfall on the east coast of Florida early Thursday morning, continues to force administrators to close or shift schools across the Southeast to remote learning.
The closures have spread from Florida into Georgia and South Carolina a little over a month after the far more devastating Hurricane Ian shut down many of the same districts. Nicole, striking near the end of hurricane season, had knocked out power and caused other disruptions in the three states. Many of the districts were already planning to be closed Friday for Veteran’s Day.
