K12 turnover keeps school boards busy hiring new superintendents

In New York, Superintendent Carmine Peluso is moving to the Churchville-Chili Central School District from the Rochester City School District. Ann Arbor Public Schools in Michigan has promoted interim leader Jazz Parks to become its next superintendent

More than a dozen districts picked new superintendents in another busy week of turnover in K12 central offices.

In New York, Superintendent Carmine Peluso will take the helm at the Churchville-Chili Central School District after having led the Rochester City School District since 2022. Peluso previously held several administrative positions in Rochester, including deputy superintendent of operations and administration and chief of schools.

Ann Arbor Public Schools in Michigan has promoted interim leader Jazz Parks to become its next superintendent. Parks, who has been with the district for 16 years, has recently overseen the development of the district’s equity plan and re-established its crisis response team, the Ann Arbor school board noted.

Another superintendent switching districts is Robert “Bob” Fischer, who is moving to Ohio’s Carlisle Local Schools from the National Trail Local School District. Fischer has also served as the superintendent of Twin Valley Community Local Schools, also in Ohio. In New Jersey, Superintendent Brian Kitchin is shifting to West Milford Township Public Schools from the Fredon Township School District.

More Texas districts have just chosen new leaders. Sharyland ISD has chosen Elaine Howard, now Boerne ISD’s deputy superintendent, while Normangee ISD selected a high school principal, Justin Vercher, as the lone finalists for their superintendent positions.

Owensboro Public Schools in Kentucky has named Wendy Duvall its next superintendent. Duvall is currently the assistant superintendent of Todd County Schools and was previously a middle school principal for 14 years.

And in Michigan, Jason Lundin will become the superintendent of Beal City Public Schools after having served as director of academics at the Chippewa Hills School District,
