Several superintendent spots are being filled by internal promotions

Interim leader Matthew Ray has been offered a contract to serve as superintendent of Omaha Public Schools in Nebraska.

A longtime administrator and current interim superintendent was promoted to the top spot in the district he has served for years during yet another busy week of K12 hiring.

Matthew Ray has been offered a contract to serve as superintendent of Omaha Public Schools in Nebraska after having been the district’s interim leader, deputy superintendent and chief of staff, interim chief academic officer, secretary to the board of education and executive director of student and community services.

Another interim superintendent moving into the full-time position this summer is Troy Tornow of the Ellensburg School District in Washington. Tornow has also been an assistant superintendent in the Selah School District and Educational Service District 123.

In Texas, Belton Independent School District has promoted acting superintendent Malinda Golden to replace Matt Smith, who resigned in January. Golden was hired as the district’s deputy superintendent for ISD in 2020 and has been an assistant superintendent in Georgetown and Leander ISDs.

Several other districts also promoted from within in picking their next superintendents over the past week. Corey Murphy, currently the chief officer of operations and student services in the Aiken County Public Schools, will become the South Carolina district’s superintendent beginning 2024-25 school year.

He was previously the chief of staff for Williamsburg-James City County Public Schools in Virginia and wroked as a principal in multiple South Carolina districts.

The Shawnee Mission School District in Kansas has elevated Michael Schumacher to superintendent from his current post as associate superintendent of human resources. He has spent nine years at the Shawnee Mission School District, having also served as the assistant director of curriculum and instruction, and executive director of secondary human resources.

Michael Methvin has been named the new superintendent of the Bolivar R-1 School District in Missouri. He currently serves as the executive director of middle schools at Springfield Public Schools and was previously the district’s director of elementary schools. He was previously as assistant principal at Bolivar’s middle school from 2006 to 2013.

And in Illinois, the Yorkville Community School District has chosen Matthew Zediker as its new superintendent. Zediker is currently the chief human resources officer for the Rockford Public School District 205, where he was previously an assistant principal, principal and executive director of elementary schools.
