Opportunity is knocking: What Wilmington-area schools are doing to improve graduation rates

Graduation rates across Wilmington-area school districts have seen a decrease over the past two school years. While each district is in a different position, there seems to be a similar course of action to keep students in school.

One local school district ranks among the top in the state. Another, which has been below state average, has seen the most improvement, and yet another sits right above the state average, according to data from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The state average for 2024 graduation rates was 86.9%.

Here’s a look at graduation rates across the Cape Fear region and what some schools are doing to ensure more students make it to the finish line.
