From the slots to the schools, Governor Larry Hogan is allocating a percentage of Maryland’s casino revenues to an education trust fund for public school systems.
In December, Maryland’s six casinos saw an increase totaling over $148 million, with $45 million going to the trust fund. But with that extra monies, some local educators are worried about how it will be dispersed to the school districts here on the Eastern Shore.
“What can help Montgomery County in getting $3 million can change the way we do business down here. So I’m hoping that whatever money comes our way, when it comes and if it comes, is substantial enough to really impact what we do for our students,” Somerset County Superintendent John Gaddis said.
