Washington County school board approves higher teacher salaries

New teachers in Washington County will start the 2019-20 school year making around $55,000, almost $10,000 more than starting teachers made this year.

The Washington County Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously approved a renegotiated contract agreement that provides the higher starting salary, along with a minimum 3.8% salary increase for teachers.

Board President Melissa Williams said she was pleased that the board could give raises to teachers. She said the recruitment and retention of teachers was a great concern for the district.
