Silver Spring, Md. (Wednesday, May 22, 2019) – Stanley Black & Decker and Discovery Education today named two Innovation Generation Contest Grand Prize Winners, including William Davies Middle School of Mays Landing, New Jersey and St. Mary’s Catholic Elementary School of Bellevue, Nebraska. Both schools have been awarded $25,000 to create Stanley Black & Decker Makerspaces in their learning communities. The contest is part of the Innovation Generation: Making an Impact program, which aspires to engage 6th – 8th grade educators and students through innovation and the power of making.
Between October 2018 and March 2019, The Innovation Generation Contest invited communities to vote daily for the school of their choice, offering middle schools a chance at winning the tools, services and equipment needed to create state-of-the-art school spaces purposed to foster a spirit of learning, ingenuity and growth. The initiative cultivates student collaboration and Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) learning acceleration in urban, rural, advanced and underserved learning communities.
“Stanley Black & Decker is committed to empowering the next generation with the proper tools and equipment needed to bring STEAM-learning to life and we congratulate our inaugural ‘Innovation Generation Contest’ winners,” said Stanley Black & Decker Corporate Responsibility Officer Deb Geyer. “In collaboration with Discovery Education, we are focused on providing unique building, making and doing experiences to an emerging class of 21st century innovators.”
