Webinar focuses on selecting assessments that are rigorous, reasonable and relevant

Charlotte N.C. (Oct. 23, 2019) — According to a national survey by the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL) the majority of principals reported that they believe social and emotional skills can and should be assessed annually. However, only 17 percent stated that they were familiar with SEL assessments. To support principals in making informed decisions about SEL assessments, Aperture Education is hosting a webinar to discuss the types of SEL assessments available and the criteria that principals can use to evaluate and select the best one for their needs.

The webinar “Selecting Social and Emotional Learning Assessments that are Rigorous, Reasonable and Relevant” will feature guests from Aperture Education, xSEL Labs and Kickboard and will take place at 2 p.m. Eastern Time on Oct. 29, 2019. To register, visit The webinar will also be available on-demand to registrants.

“SEL assessment data can support and inform programs and interventions at schools, but it can sometimes be difficult for school leaders to know where to start,” said Aperture Education CEO Jessica Adamson. “This webinar will provide education leaders with information and advice to help them make informed decisions and make sure they are selecting SEL tools that are rigorous, reasonable and relevant.”

The webinar will outline three different approaches to SEL assessment: teacher ratings, student performance assessment, and direct observation and will discuss how to apply rigor, reasonableness, and relevance when selecting a high-quality SEL assessment for their school or program.

The webinar is part of Aperture Education’s ongoing work to support social-emotional learning in schools and out-of-school time organizations. Aperture Education provides research-informed SEL assessments and strategies for students in grades K-12.
