Impero Software Named a Finalist for the 2018 Greater Austin Business Awards
Austin, TX, Aug. 22, 2018 – Impero Software, global specialists in remote monitoring and management software for education, has been shortlisted for this year’s Greater Austin Business Awards in the Innovation category. Winners will be announced at the 2018 Greater Austin Business Awards ceremony on August 30, 2018 at the JW Marriott Austin.
Presented by the Austin Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Austin Business Awards recognize businesses and organizations for achievements, community contributions and milestones. As the largest business event in Central Texas, it brings together 1,000 business leaders, entrepreneurs, organizations, government officials and regional chambers.
Richard Fuller, CEO of Impero Software, commented, “We’re delighted to be recognized at this year’s Austin Chamber Business Awards for our commitment to keeping students safe online. We are fairly new to the business community in Austin and are thrilled to be a part of this prestigious event.”
Impero was named a finalist in the category of ‘innovation’ for its work developing student safety software for K-12 schools – Impero Education Pro. Impero has formed partnerships with leading charities and specialist organizations, such as Mental Health America (MHA), the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), SafeBAE and more, to develop keyword detection libraries. The libraries provide definitions relating to a broad range of safeguarding and student welfare issues, from bullying, self-harm and suicide to grooming, race and religious hatred, and weapons and violence. All terms are assigned severity ratings and offer definitions designed to help K-12 school staff respond appropriately and within context of a student’s wider behavior, both online and offline.
Impero Education Pro also helps promote good digital citizenship in schools. Real-time monitoring, keyword captures and a log of all student activity helps schools and districts identify potentially harmful or inappropriate behavior and content. Screenshot and video recordings of captures also provide contextual insight; this empowers educators to provide counter narratives, intervene where necessary (and before an incident escalates), and offer relevant support. Schools can also use this insight, such as identifying localized trends and issues, to educate students about being good digital citizens and support student wellbeing.
