People Watch: Earnest Winston named N.C. district’s superintendent

Winston is officially heading up Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools after a short stint as acting superintendent

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in North Carolina officially named Earnest Winston as the district’s leader. He only recently became acting superintendent, replacing Clayton Wilcox, who resigned, and he served previously as the district’s chief engagement officer and ombudsman. Read more.

In other people news:

Andy Pygott has been promoted to superintendent of the Meridian Community Unit School District in Illinois, following 14 years of service as the district’s middle school principal. He replaces Dan Brue, who resigned. Read more.

The board of education for Michigan’s St. Joseph Public Schools has approved a superintendent contract for Thomas Bruce. Bruce has been the director of curriculum and instruction at Arcadia USD in California since 2016. He replaces Ann Cardon at St. Joseph. Cardon is now superintendent of the Traverse City Area Public Schools, also in Michigan. Read more.
