New training resource to deliver professional development for paraprofessionals

Toolkit aids school administrators in conducting quality paraprofessional training with minimum planning effort

LRP Media Group, a recognized leader in the special education publishing industry, has released The Special Ed Administrator’s Training Toolkit: Professional Development for Paraprofessionals — The IEP Process and Data Collection.

Focusing on the different methods of data collection and how to gather the information their partner teacher needs to inform IEP team decision-making, paraprofessionals get training to determine which data collection method is best to use in a variety of situations; differentiate between what is and what is not observable, measurable behavior; and more. Activities include a detailed discussion about the IEP process, an introduction to anecdotal records, and practice matching recording systems to various student behaviors, among others.

The toolkit offers special ed administrators tips to create an inviting learning environment where their paraprofessionals interact. It includes suggested timing, content breaks, and activities for one 6-hour session, two 3-hour sessions, or four 1½-hour sessions.

The toolkit also includes:

  • Trainer Takeaways with Practical Pointers to supervise paraprofessionals and Tools You Can Use for your interactions with them.
  • Testing and Portfolio Documentation with a test and homework items.
  • Bonus: A code to download activities, participant handouts, PowerPoint slides, and other included tools — all ready to use!

The Special Ed Administrator’s Training Toolkit: Professional Development for Paraprofessionals — The IEP Process and Data Collection is available for purchase from LRP Publications’ online store.
