New tool to protect school networks from internal threats
The Hacking and Cybercrime Keyword Library contains lists of key words and phrases that have been linked to cybercrime and security breaches. The new library is part of the company’s flagship product, Impero Education Pro, which provides online monitoring, classroom management and administrative tools for schools.
Cybersecurity is a growing area of interest for school districts as they try to keep student information safe and protect their networks. To help districts detect threats from within, Impero Software, providers of remote monitoring and management software for education, has created a new keyword library specific to hacking and cybercrime.
The Hacking and Cybercrime Keyword Library was developed by Impero’s internal team of researchers and contains lists of key words and phrases that have been linked to cybercrime and security breaches. The new library is part of the company’s flagship product, Impero Education Pro, which provides online monitoring, classroom management and administrative tools for schools. Impero Education Pro also provides libraries of keywords related to other areas of concern including bullying, radicalization, self-harm, mental health and more.
When a school installs the new Hacking and Cybercrime Keyword Library, designated school personnel are alerted if anyone on the school network searches for those keywords, or types certain urls or phrases that could indicate they are trying to hack into the school’s network. For example the software detects if someone tries to access the dark web, searches for programs, tools or how-to tutorials related to hacking, or visits specific web sites or forums known to be associated with cybercrime.
Impero developed the new library in response to a rising need across the country for more tools to safeguard school networks.
“We have seen a growing concern among school districts surrounding hacking and cybersecurity, including attacks from within.,” said Richard Fuller, CEO of Impero Software. “Previously if a school had an internal network breach, a school could use our software to backtrack through the system and discover the origin. Now, using the new keyword library, school administrators receive alerts when the attempt or idea first occurs. Whether the intent is to change grades, steal passwords, or something even more sinister or disruptive, schools now have a way to detect potential incidents early and address them before they get out of hand.”
The Hacking and Cybercrime Keyword Library is available now to existing Impero Education Pro customers at no additional cost.
In addition to the keyword libraries, Impero Education Pro provides classroom management tools and network administration functions to help schools provide effective digital learning environments. Its multi-device monitoring functions, including the ability to remotely view, manage and control devices such as Chromebooks, Windows, Mac and iOS, supports schools with 1:1 programs while the network administration functions include the ability to remotely track, monitor, and manage resources across an entire school network. IT administrators can also remotely reset passwords and set computers to power on or off at certain times.
