Meridian CUSD’s school board chooses Andy Pygott
A new superintendent will take the helm at Meridian Community Unit School District on Monday following the resignation of Dan Brue, who is under investigation by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office.
Andy Pygott, the district’s middle school principal for the past 14 years, was named by the board on Friday. Before working at Meridian, he served as a teacher and coach for the public school districts in Decatur and Mount Zion.
Brue stepped down July 26 for reasons that neither he nor the school board have revealed. In a letter to the board, Brue apologized for “putting the district in a poor light.” He declined to elaborate when contacted by the Herald & Review. Macon County Sheriff Tony Brown has said the sheriff’s office is investigating allegations of financial improprieties related to Brue. No charges have been filed.
