LRP’s “Roadmap to Eligibility” walks educators through sets of evaluating students with disabilities

A step-by-step guide through the often-confusing process of deciding whether a student qualifies as a student with a disability.

LRP Publications, a recognized leader in the special education publishing industry, has released the book Roadmap to IDEA/Section 504 Compliance: Eligibility Determinations. Patterned after a flow chart, the resource takes educators step by step through the often-confusing process of deciding whether a student qualifies as a student with a disability under either the IDEA or Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973.

The book includes 24 steps under the IDEA and 22 steps under Section 504, including:

  • Collecting data.
  • Forming the eligibility team.
  • Analyzing eligibility criteria.
  • Weighing the impact of mental health impairments.
  • Determining eligibility for English learners.
  • Sending compliant notices that help protect school districts from liability.
  • And much more.

Like the other books in LRP’s Roadmap series, this 2019 pamphlet is written in plain English, incorporates numerous practical tips designed to make the process easier, and includes short references to case law and U.S. Department of Education policy guidance in separate, concise side-bar that appears on each page.

The book is now available at the LRP online store.
