Being adaptive, engaging and fun, products try to meet the needs of individual students while aligning with the Common Core and other state standards. Here are some of the latest math tools in light of NCTM’s conference in April. Big Ideas Math

Big Ideas Math

Houghton Mifflin Harcourt

For grades 6 through 12, the Big Ideas Math program uses a research-based balanced instructional approach that includes both discovery learning and direct instruction lessons. The program supports and enhances the multiple pathways available from sixth-grade mathematics through Algebra 2. The Big Ideas Math package includes the Dynamic Assessment and Progress Monitoring Tool, Dynamic Student Edition eBook App, and Dynamic Teaching Tools.

ST Math

MIND Research Institute

From the nonprofit organization MIND Research Institute, ST Math engages students’ spatial-temporal reasoning capabilities to help them understand and solve multi-step math problems. It is available for K5, Fluency and Math+Music modules, or it can be used to complement a math curriculum or as a secondary intervention unit for struggling students.

For grades 3 through 12, ALEKS is an adaptive online math program that uses artificial intelligence and open-response questioning to identify what each student knows and doesn’t know. Educators can use detailed progress monitoring on student mastery of Common Core and other state standards. ALEKS Math courses are available in both English and Spanish.
