Industry News: Districts using new tech to boost student, staff success and improve safety

Thirty-four state education departments will receive MetaMetrics‘ Lexile Find a Book and Quantile Summer Math Challenge as part of the national Council of Chief State School Officers’ Summer Learning Challenge initiative. The Find a Book online search tool includes more than 335,000 fiction and nonfiction works, while the Summer Math Challenge email-based program targets students in grades 1 through 8.

For the 2019-20 academic year, Michigan school districts will use Istation‘s Indicators of Progress Early Reading assessment to ensure students are reading at grade level before fourth grade, as required by state law. The assessment measures student growth across grade levels with diagnostic and screening programs.

Boyertown Area School District (Pennsylvania) will install camera systems from Safety Vision on 185 school buses in the district. The cameras come with a five-year advanced replacement warranty and Synovia software to bypass data plans and wireless network technology. 

In Harlingen Consolidated ISD (Texas), middle school educators will participate in Discovery Education‘s four-year STEM Leader Corps for scaling education. Elementary school teachers will also receive professional development for three years on using Discovery Education’s STEM Connect, a web-based K-8 resource. All teachers will have access to the Discovery Education Community, which connects educators through social media, virtual conferences and in-person events.

The Colorado River BOCES (Colorado) and 2gnoMe will create two PD portals—one for special ed faculty and another for general education teachers, administrators and system-level leaders. The cloud-based environments will be based on state standards.
