It’s been suggested that teaching reading is rocket science. The expertise it requires means rigorous teacher preparation and professional learning is necessary for educators to be aligned with years of reading science research. In line with that thinking, administrators need to acquire the same expertise and preparedness from trusted resources that summarize key conclusions drawn from reading research.
Today, district administrators are tasked with knowing the unique needs of their students and selecting effective reading intervention programs. Furthermore, once programs are selected, administrators are charged with delivering the resources to support implementing the programs as designed.
