Closing the Digital Divide

Date of broadcast: Tue, 09/25/18

It is estimated that 5 million U.S. families with school-aged children do not have internet access at home, yet 70 percent of teachers assign homework that requires web access. This “digital divide” creates inequity between students with adequate access to technology, and those without it.

Attend this web seminar to learn how administrators in the Dekalb County School District—the third-largest district in Georgia—are closing this digital divide through their Digital Dreamers technology initiative, which provides technology as well as wireless internet access for every student and teacher in the district.

Topics will include:

    • Creating a digital transformation: infrastructure, buy-in, budget
    • Building community, stakeholder and student engagement
    • Planning, implementation and execution
    • Key lessons learned, and best practices for any district tech initiative

Scheduled speakers:

Carla Smith
IT Support Manager
DeKalb County School District

Who will benefit: Administrators interested in technology initiatives or closing the digital divide. Anyone may attend.
